A 3 MINUTE HISTORICAL MESSAGE FROM DAVID GORDON SVP ROLLS-ROYCE
Working with the Royal Air Force Terry Jervis set up StaRRship in 2018 as an innovative project to get young people of diverse backgrounds and genders interested in air and space technology, as part of the RAF centenary commemorations. The project won the Women in Defense Award for attracting young women into Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). It also became a popular YouTube channel and the StaRRship interactive vehicle (lorry & trailer) attended airshows - supported by the famous Red Arrows aerobatics team.
Hope has arrived. That's also the name of the STARRSHIP: HUMAN OUTER PLANETARY EXPLORER (H.O.P.E.). Terry conceived the idea after watching NASA present a dilemma for manned missions to Mars. He approached senior leaders of the Royal Air Force and presented his idea. They liked it for their future vision in space. Terry sought backing from an engineering powerhouse, and Rolls-Royce was his choice. Since then, RAF Space Command was formed, and Rolls-Royce is now developing power systems for spacecraft and space bases. It takes a long time to build a spaceship - but he and Rolls-Royce have done so in the virtual space. You will soon experience the launch - coming in autumn/fall 2024.
